Sabah government offers RM10,000 reward after third elephant killing

The state is calling for public help after another decapitated Borneo pygmy elephant was found — the third such case since January

The Sabah government is offering a RM10,000 reward for credible information that leads to the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of those behind the brutal killing of a Borneo pygmy elephant.

Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew said the decision was made following the discovery of a third elephant carcass this year, this time found decapitated.

“We made the decision to offer a reward of RM10,000 at a ministerial meeting on Wednesday in the wake of the discovery of another carcass of a decapitated elephant,” she told reporters last night.

“This is the third shocking case since January. We want solid evidence of these brutal acts,” she said, urging members of the public to report sightings or suspicious activity to the Sabah Wildlife Department or the police.

She said the authorities need public cooperation to bring the perpetrators to justice. – April 10, 2025.
