Authorities intensify efforts to dismantle illegal settlements, citing safety risks and crime prevention

A joint operation led by Kota Kinabalu police has demolished 35 illegal houses as part of a crackdown on squatter colonies, aimed at enhancing community safety and preventing criminal activities.

The operation, dubbed “Operasi Perobohan Koloni Setinggan Siri 2/2025,” involved multiple agencies, including Kota Kinabalu City Hall, the National Registration Department, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, the Land and Survey Department, and the Chief Minister’s Department.

Authorities said the move was necessary to eliminate safety hazards and prevent the area from becoming a hub for crime, illegal immigrants, drug abuse, and other social issues.
