Authorities demolish 55 illegal squatter homes in Kota Kinabalu

Authorities have demolished 55 illegal squatter homes as part of an ongoing crackdown on unauthorized settlements.

It could not be ascertain the location of the demolition exercise was done. It is the first operation conducted by the Kota Kinabalu police for this year. 

The operation, led by the Kota Kinabalu district police (IPD), involved multiple agencies, including Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK), the National Registration Department (JPN), Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), the Land and Survey Department (JTU), and the Chief Minister’s Department (JKM).



According to police, the demolished structures were built illegally and posed safety risks.

“This effort is not just about clearing illegal settlements but also ensuring public safety and security,” the authorities said in a statement on Facebook tonight. 

The operation is set to continue, targeting crime, undocumented migrants, drug activities, and social issues in the district.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order, urging the public to support efforts to eliminate illegal settlements. – February 6, 2025.
