Elderly woman forgets to switch off engine

A 62-year-old woman accidentally crashed her car into a shop at Lorong Bintang, Batu 3, Jalan Apas, after forgetting to switch off the engine and engage the parking gear.
However, both the driver and her passenger escaped unhurt in the 7.30 am incident.
Tawau police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said they were alerted to the accident at 8 am.
“Preliminary investigations found that the woman had parked her Proton Saga in front of Ekonomic Market without turning off the engine.
“As she stepped out, she forgot to engage the parking gear, causing the car to lurch forward and crash into the shop,” he said.
The accident damaged the shop’s front glass door and several items inside, but no injuries were reported.
Jasmin added that investigations are ongoing, and the case is being probed under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving leading to an accident. – February 9, 2025
