Sabah UMNO and Warisan are pushing back against online speculation suggesting a political alliance, slamming viral social media claims as clickbait and misinformation.
Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking has called the rumors “unfounded” and stressing that no agreements had been made with BN Sabah—or any other party—on seat-sharing for the upcoming election.
“This matter has never even reached Warisan’s Supreme Council or Political Bureau,” Leiking said, dismissing a widely circulated Facebook post as political mischief.
He acknowledged that election season tends to fuel speculation but pointed out that GRS chairman Hajiji Noor had previously indicated a willingness to work with BN Sabah.
“With PH Sabah already on board with GRS, it’s not shocking that Hajiji would want BN Sabah in the mix—it’s all about GRS holding on to power,” Leiking said.
While neither party pulled punches in refuting the rumors, the timing has raised eyebrows.
Cybertroopers have been noticeably active since the Sabah mining corruption scandal broke, fueling speculation that the misinformation push is a strategic distraction meant to shift public attention.
UMNO Sabah, for its part, also shot down the rumors. Its information chief, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, made it clear that no official discussions or deals had taken place.
“UMNO Sabah remains focused on strengthening the party and serving the people,” Suhaimi said, warning against buying into unverified claims.
