Usno president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia asserts that his outspoken stance against national parties seeking alliances with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) reflects the sentiments of the coalition’s leadership.
Pandikar said that while GRS leaders have diverse backgrounds, Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor distinguishes himself through decisive actions rather than words.
“Hajiji is bold but cautious, balancing courage with patience,” Pandikar notes.
He contends that his vocal objections mirror internal concerns within GRS, which others may hesitate to express.
“Many within the coalition share these views but lack the platform to voice them. My familiarity with Kuala Lumpur’s leadership enables me to speak candidly,” he explains.
Pandikar, formerly the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, clarifies that any repercussions should be directed at him and Usno, not Hajiji.
“If action is warranted, it should target me and Usno. Hajiji is not at fault,” he asserts.
He cautions against coercive collaborations with national parties, suggesting that such pressure could intensify local sentiments.
“GRS stands as the largest local coalition. Our grassroots engagement aims to gauge public sentiment,” Pandikar states.
Addressing recent corruption allegations within GRS, he points out that leaders of other major parties are also facing legal proceedings.
“This is not unprecedented in Malaysia. The public will judge accordingly,” he remarks.
Pandikar concludes that while GRS leaders will collectively determine their political trajectory, any decision must align with the majority’s perspective.
“Disagreements are part of democracy. Ultimately, the majority’s decision prevails,” he said. – February 17, 2025
