The Tuaran Parliamentary People’s Service Centre will be organising the Tuaran-level Earth Day Celebration on April 22, 2025.
The programme is held in collaboration with the Tuaran District Education Office (PPD), the Department of Environment (DOE), as well as various government and private agencies.
It will feature activities such as tree planting, a poster drawing competition, and environmental-themed exhibitions.
A simultaneous tree planting activity involving around 29,000 primary and secondary school students across six zones in the Tuaran district will also take place.
Planting locations include riverbanks and areas prone to erosion and landslides, including school surroundings.
The celebration also aims to achieve two entries in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) – the most Baccaurea Lanceolata (Liposu) trees planted, with over 8,800 trees, and the largest simultaneous planting of Liposu trees by 87 schools across the Tuaran district at their respective locations.
Beyond commemorating Earth Day, the programme also aims to raise awareness on the importance of tree planting in preserving the natural ecosystem, which can also serve as a sustainable and effective method for flood mitigation.
The event will be officiated by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, at the Sabah Co-curriculum Centre, Kem Malangang Kiulu.
Also scheduled to attend are Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, departmental heads, and community leaders. – April 18, 2025
