Sabah has secured approximately RM58.3 billion in foreign and domestic investments in the manufacturing sector since September 2020, with 73 companies committing to the state’s growth, data released by the state Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship (MIDE) on Monday.
From 2022 to 2024 alone, Sabah received investment proposals worth RM42.3 billion, potentially generating 32,996 jobs.
Among the major investors is Esteel Enterprise Sabah Sdn Bhd, which recently obtained its Federal Manufacturing License (FML) for its Phase One project at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Park (SOGIP).
Other significant contributors include Curix Sdn Bhd and Kibing Group at KKIP, as well as Tex Evolusi Waste Management Sdn Bhd and E Concern (Borneo) Sdn Bhd at SOGIP.
MIDE is also in discussions with Kibing Group for a project in Kimanis, TS Asia Green Infrastructure Sdn Bhd at POIC Lahad Datu, and PMB Technology/Press Metal in Sipitang.
“Overall, Sabah stands to gain RM58.3 billion worth of investments,” said MIDE Permanent Secretary Datuk Thomas Logijin in Kota Kinabalu.
Alongside attracting big investments, Sabah is also looking to stimulate local entrepreneurship.
MIDE is planning four SME Carnivals this year in Tawau, Tuaran, Kudat, and Keningau.
These events are aimed at supporting the state’s 8,031 registered SME entrepreneurs.
Initiatives under MIDE include the SME-Up program, entrepreneur development courses, and the Buy Sabah Products campaign.
Additionally, 87 local entrepreneurs will receive support to participate in international trade expos, helping them expand their market reach.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor praised MIDE’s efforts in attracting investments and supporting SMEs.
He urged continued efforts to boost local businesses and announced the development of three new industrial parks in Kudat, Beaufort, and Kota Belud.
“These industrial parks are expected to elevate Sabah’s economic status once operational,” he said. – February 24, 2025
