Hajiji announces home rebuilds, cash relief and food support for 28 families left homeless
The Sabah government has started channeling early relief to victims of two separate fires that left 28 families homeless in Kampung Petagas and Bukit Vor last weekend.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor visited the temporary evacuation centre at Dewan Sri Putatan on Wednesday, where 74 victims are currently being housed, and personally handed over food baskets and cash assistance to the heads of affected households.
Each family received multiple layers of support: RM1,000 in Compassionate Aid (BWI), another RM1,000 from the Sabah Welfare Foundation (YKS), RM1,000 from the state zakat authority (MUIS), and RM300 from the Sabah Baitulmal Corporation.
Food packs were also distributed.
“For those who lost their homes completely, the government will rebuild them under the Rumah Mesra SMJ programme, on their existing plots.
“As for partially damaged houses, assistance will range between RM5,000 and RM10,000,” Hajiji told reporters during his visit.
Hajiji said the state remains committed to protecting the welfare of its people, especially in times of crisis.
