Police also investigated a spike in cable theft cases, receiving 12 reports from July 2024 to January 2025. The incidents, spanning Lubok Temiang, Rancha-Rancha, Bebuloh, and Labuan Town, resulted in losses estimated at RM88,290.

The first arrest on July 25, 2024, led to the capture of three men from the so-called Geng Bel Isham, accused of stealing copper cables worth RM28,000. Two tested positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines. Both were sentenced to six months in jail.

On December 7, 2024, police apprehended two suspects linked to Geng Salpau for thefts in Batu Arang, Jalan Tanjung Aru, Sungai Keling, and Rancha-Rancha. They were jailed for six months and fined RM2,200.

A separate case on January 24, 2025, saw the arrest of three men from Geng Fitri for cable thefts in Lubok Temiang, causing losses of RM18,050. Two were found to be drug-positive and sentenced to nine months in jail with a RM1,300 fine.

Police also detained a 37-year-old suspect from Geng Eul on January 23, 2025, linking him to two cases of cable theft. His alleged accomplice remains at large. He is expected to be charged in court.

In early February, authorities rounded up two locals and a foreigner from Geng Arshad, suspected of stealing cables worth RM2,500 in Rancha-Rancha. They tested positive for drugs and will face additional charges under the Immigration Act.

Investigators believe stolen cables were stripped and burned before being sold to scrap yards. The crackdown has helped solve all 12 reported cable theft cases.

Labuan police urged businesses to install CCTV cameras and strengthen patrols in high-risk areas. The public has been encouraged to report suspicious activity, as cable thefts could disrupt telecommunications, public safety, and the economy.
