RM25 million allocated to repair disaster-hit infrastructure in Sabah, Sarawak

The Prime Minister has announced an allocation of approximately RM25 million to repair infrastructure damaged by floods, landslides, and fires in Sabah and Sarawak.

Speaking at the Kenduri Rakyat event in Ipoh this afternoon, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also announced immediate assistance of RM1,000 for each family affected by these disasters.

“Let us pray for the safety and protection of our brothers and sisters in Sabah and Sarawak. May Allah swiftly lift these calamities from Borneo,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Sabah state government welcomes the Federal Government’s allocation of approximately RM25 million to repair infrastructure damaged by floods, landslides, and fires in Sabah and Sarawak.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the immediate assistance is crucial to repairing public infrastructure affected by recent floods in several districts across the state.

“This aid will help ease the burden on flood victims while enabling us to repair damaged infrastructure. The state government sincerely thanks the Federal Government for this swift assistance,” he said here on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said Sabah has taken proactive steps in preparing for the Northeast Monsoon, mobilizing 14,209 personnel from various emergency response and security agencies.

“This includes the Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), RELA, and others.

“There are also 1,456 logistical assets, covering land, water, and air transport. Additionally, all District Officers, who chair their respective District Disaster Management Committees (JPBD), have had their leave suspended to ensure readiness for the monsoon,” he said.

Hajiji also expressed gratitude to all emergency personnel involved in rescue operations and the evacuation of flood victims to safer locations.

The state has recorded a total of 5,126 evacuees as at 4pm in nine districts – Beaufort, Kota Marudu, Tongod, Telupid, Sandakan, Kota Belud, Lahad Datu, Beluran, Paitan and Pitas. 

The numbers have reduced from 5,617 evacuees at 8am. 

A total of 34 evacuation centres have been opened since floods hit the districts about three days ago.  – January 31, 2025
