Monthly briefings on road repairs, water issues, and stalled projects

Sabah to hold monthly briefings on infrastructure issues

The Sabah government will introduce monthly progress briefings to tackle road damage, water supply issues, and stalled projects, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.

Following concerns raised by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, district engineers and concessionaires under the Sabah Public Works Department (PWD) will meet next week to coordinate solutions.

“The focus will be on minimising potholes, while also implementing short, medium, and long-term water supply improvements,” Shahelmey told reporters after a Chap Goh Mei event in Putatan on Wednesday (Feb 12).

PWD is also working on urgent repairs for roads damaged by floods and landslides, ensuring affected areas remain accessible.

“If a road is cut off, emergency action will be taken, including temporary routes where necessary,” he said.

Shahelmey revealed that many of the 400 stalled projects previously reported were actually terminated and are now being revived.

“We will hold monthly monitoring meetings to track progress and identify which projects can be fast-tracked,” he said.

The Chap Goh Mei event drew around 1,000 attendees, featuring a lion dance and angpau distribution to senior citizens and children. – February 14, 2025.
