The full, unedited videos of Sabah’s alleged corruption scandal involving mining licenses would be handed over to the MACC today.
Former anti-graft chief Latheefa Koya made it clear—there’s no more room for excuses not to take action on the alleged corruption charges.
The original recordings, given by whistleblower named only as “Albert”, were handed over today after MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki previously dismissed the edited versions published by Malaysiakini as not credible.
“The latest excuse was that the videos were edited. What we are handing over now is unedited footage—directly as recorded. There can be no more excuses,” she said as seen on the YouTube Channel KiniTV on Tuesday.
The initial clips, released late last year allegedly showed several Sabah assemblymen, with the latest on Monday (yesterday) of the state speaker discussing bribes in exchange for mineral exploration licenses.
Azam had previously claimed the edited videos lacked credibility and couldn’t be used as evidence in court.
“We’re giving them everything. The unedited clips. The original recording device. It’s all there,” said Latheefa when met by reporters in Kuala Lumpur earlier.
She confirmed that Lawyers for Liberty executive director Zaid Malek would personally deliver the evidence to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today at 2 PM.
With the full recordings out in the open, she said there is no reason for further delays. But the case isn’t just about the videos—it’s about Albert’s safety.
Latheefa revealed that “Albert” has faced threats since coming forward. Someone in a high position even advised him not to lodge a report.
Yet, the Madani government has refused to grant him whistleblower protection, she said.
“Albert took a huge risk coming forward after being ignored when he first raised this through Malaysiakini. He’s faced obstacle after obstacle,” she said.
“It is in the public interest to protect the whistleblower and use his testimony to go after the big fish.
“It is not in the public interest to arrest, remand, or prosecute him while letting the real culprits walk free. No government in the world does that.”
