66 people displaced as heavy rains submerge low-lying areas in Keningau and Kinabatangan.

A flood emergency has been declared here, effective 1:00 AM today, as heavy rains inundated several low-lying areas, forcing evacuations.

“We have mobilized all relevant agencies to assist affected residents,” said District Officer Peter Jonu @ J. Moinjil, who chairs the District Disaster Management Committee.

The Civil Defence Force reported this morning that 66 people have been evacuated to the Dewan Keningau evacuation centre.

The total number of evacuees across flood-hit areas, including Kinabatangan, has risen to 319.

“We’re closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as needed,” Moinjil added. – February 6, 2025.
