An Austral Park resident in Kota Kinabalu is baffled by the repeated fogging exercises in the neighbourhood, questioning whether a nearby construction site could be contributing to the risk of dengue.
Resident Ronal Cooke said Health Department personnel had been fogging the area for more than a week, with officials reportedly citing a high number of dengue cases in the housing estate.
While welcoming the efforts, he said residents deserved an update on the number of cases and the severity of the outbreak.
Cooke said a health official had informed him that a stop-work notice was issued to the construction site for 12 days, but work reportedly resumed three days later.
He questioned whether the site had been inspected and all potential mosquito breeding grounds removed, particularly amid the rainy season.
He also urged Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) to clear clogged drains and address damage to roads allegedly caused by piling works at the nearby multi-storey development.
Cooke said residents had previously raised concerns about the construction’s impact on their homes and public infrastructure, but had yet to receive a satisfactory response from the mayor.
He said DBKK should take greater responsibility for the concerns of residents and ratepayers, particularly after approving the development.
