Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to preserve political stability so the government can focus on solving real problems.
“We can only think about artificial intelligence (AI), development and the people’s issues when politics are stable. Otherwise, how can a Prime Minister even begin to focus?” he said during his address for the breaking-of-fast event in Tuaran on Saturday.
Anwar said his meeting with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor earlier that day was about real issues, and in jest not for personal interests.
“I didn’t ask for land or timber concessions,” he said.
“We talked about water problems, electricity, and pothole-ridden roads — that’s what matters.”
He praised Hajiji for bringing political calm to Sabah, saying it has allowed the state and federal governments to push ahead with development.
With stability in place, he said, the government can now focus on energy transition, industrial planning and preparing the country for the AI era.
Anwar reminded civil servants and leaders to perform their duties with discipline, integrity and compassion — especially during Ramadan.
“If we uphold these values, we’ll see harmony, progress and stronger human capital.”
He also gave fatherly advice to the youth, urging them to return to school after Hari Raya with renewed energy.
“Learn more, embrace digital learning, and make full use of the platforms available to prepare for this AI era.”
Anwar warned that global tech giants like Microsoft are already investing in Malaysia and looking for talent.
“But if we’re not ready — if we can’t deliver the talent — they’ll just go somewhere else.”
He ended his speech by calling on Sabahans to protect their unity across race and religion, saying it’s the backbone of a prosperous future.
“With this kind of stability, Sabah can move forward and focus on what really matters.” – March 21, 2025
