Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor says Malaysia’s re-emergence as a respected voice in global affairs is proof that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is steering the country in the right direction.
“This is a proud achievement,” Hajiji said at the State-level Madani Iftar celebration in Tuaran.
“The Prime Minister is frequently invited to various international forums to present Malaysia’s views on key global issues.”
He added that the nation’s growing economy and influx of foreign investments signal strong confidence in the current leadership.
“Foreign investors are coming in droves with investments worth hundreds of billions of ringgit,” Hajiji said.
“All these are clear indicators that Malaysia’s economy is on the right track under Anwar’s leadership.”
He also said Malaysia’s appointment as ASEAN Chair in 2025 is another milestone that reflects international trust in the country’s capability.
“This is another strong indicator that shows the international community’s recognition and confidence in the ability and leadership of our country,” he said.
Anwar, who officiated the event, also joined Hajiji earlier in visiting the Jualan Rahmah site in front of Dewan Seri Sulaman and attending a state development briefing at the Tuaran District Office.
Meanwhile, Hajiji also took the opportunity to outline several state-led initiatives aimed at tackling hardcore poverty in Sabah.
Among them is a monthly cash aid programme that will benefit 100,000 individuals, with each receiving RM300 for a period of one year.
He said 3,000 Rumah Mesra SMJ homes will be constructed this year for vulnerable families, while job opportunities will also be provided for heads of households under the scheme.
To ease the financial burden of students, the state is offering RM600 in flight subsidies to Sabahans studying in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Labuan so they can return home during festive seasons.
Those studying in local institutions will receive RM300.
The Chief Minister added that the state government has increased its scholarship allocation from RM50 million to RM128 million this year, reflecting its commitment to human capital development.
Last year alone, RM470 million was spent on education and related programmes. – March 22, 2025
