Five people, including three women, were injured after being attacked by a man armed with a machete and a hammer at a restaurant in Batu 3, here, this morning.
In the 9:11 am incident, the 29-year-old local suspect reportedly went on a rampage, injuring all five victims.
Sandakan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek, said that upon receiving a call, a patrol unit (MPV) was dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the police managed to apprehend and calm the suspect,” he said in a media statement today.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, armed with a machete and a hammer, suddenly attacked the victims inside the restaurant.”
He added that all the victims, aged between 34 and 63, comprised two men and three women. They were treated at Duchess of Kent Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
“The suspect, who did not sustain any injuries, has been taken to the police station for further investigation.
“The exact motive for the incident is still under investigation, and the police appreciate the early information provided regarding the case,” he said.
