A group of 164 former Sabah Ports Authority (SPA) employees is asking United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) to intervene in their long-standing battle to reclaim their retirement funds.

The workers, led by Anthony Jubili, claim that their Retirement Benefit Scheme (RBA) funds were handed over to the Retirement Fund (KWAP) instead of the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP), where it should have been deposited for their benefit.

“This fund, which should have been given to KWSP, has been held by KWAP since 2017,” the group said.

“This is a clear injustice to us and our dependents.”

The former employees want a chance to present their case to the Finance Ministry with supporting documents.

They say their plight has been brought to the ministry’s attention before—first by the late Sandakan MP Datuk Stephen Wong in 2015, and again by Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau in 2024—but nothing has been resolved.

Deputy president of UPKO, Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin, said the party is aware of the issue and will examine the workers’ claims.

“It is crucial for the authorities to take immediate action to ensure justice for the former SPA employees and their families,” he said.

He added that the government must step in and address the matter without further delay. – February 15, 2025
