The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested an enforcement officer in Sabah for allegedly receiving bribes totaling RM100,000 from transport companies.
Sources said the officer, in his 40s, was detained around 8 PM yesterday while giving his statement at the MACC office.
His arrest follows the recent detention of an enforcement assistant on Tuesday.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect solicited bribes from around 30 transport companies between October 2023 and November 2024, receiving between RM300 and RM3,000 monthly, amounting to RM100,000,” a source said.
The money was allegedly to avoid action against lorries violating road regulations.
Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, stating the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
The suspect was released on RM20,000 bail with one surety. – February 14, 2025.
