Earthquake in Mindanao triggers evacuation in Sabah, Sarawak

Tremors felt in several Sabah towns, northern parts of Sarawak

A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao, Southern Philippines, caused hundreds of office workers in Sabah and Sarawak to evacuate their buildings early this morning.

Videos of the evacuation went viral around 11:00 AM.

The earthquake occurred in the deep offshore region of Mindanao at a depth of 630 kilometers around 10:13 AM.

Workers at the Yayasan Sabah, the state administrative building Menara Kinabalu, and Wisma SESB in Kota Kinabalu rushed outside due to the tremors.

Kota Kinabalu is about 966 kilometers west of Mindanao.

According to a worker, the tremors were felt on the third floor of the office where she was working.

According to RTM Sarawak, the tremors were also felt in Limbang Plaza, Sarawak.

Workers there, mostly public servants, had to evacuate the building.

The Meteorological Department noted that tremors were felt in Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, and Putatan in Sabah, as well as areas in the northern parts of Sarawak.

No tsunami warning has been issued.
