Floods: Anwar orders action to ensure SPM exams proceed

Over 4,000 evacuees recorded in numerous centers in Sabah, Sarawak

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered state education departments to take immediate action to ensure SPM candidates affected by floods in Sabah and Sarawak can sit for their exams.

He expressed sadness over the worsening situation, extending condolences to flood victims in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Anwar has also instructed the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to mobilise its machinery, coordinating efforts between state and federal agencies.

“The priority now is the welfare of flood victims and the safety of those in affected areas,” he said.

The Ihsan Madani squad has been deployed to assist evacuees at relief centres and will support post-flood recovery efforts.

As of 8pm Wednesday, the number of evacuees in Sabah and Sarawak had surged to 4,000, up from 1,250 earlier. – January 30, 2025.
