A major fire has destroyed several businesses and homes in the town of Kundasang, Sabah. No casualties were reported.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 8:37pm local time on Wednesday and arrived at the scene 19 minutes later. It took more than three hours to fully extinguish the flames.
Officials said the fire destroyed three sundry shops, two homestays, a block of 11 rental units, and a storage facility, all made of non-permanent materials.
“The fire spread rapidly due to the structure of the buildings. We managed to control the blaze by 10:09pm,” said fire operations commander PBK II KUP Juanie @ Girin Dullah.
Fire crews used two 900-foot hose lines and multiple jets to tackle the flames, drawing water from nearby hydrants and fire engines.
Emergency services, including police and civil defence personnel, assisted in the operation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. – March 13, 2025
