Sabah DAP isn’t letting up on its anti-corruption stance. The party is doubling down on its call for accountability as it reconsiders its role in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration.
Sabah DAP secretary Vivian Wong Shir Yee made that much clear in a statement on Monday night.
“With the MACC having completed its investigation and submitted its findings to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP), we trust that the DPP will conduct a careful and impartial review before taking necessary action,” she said.
Yesterday, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki dismissed bribery videos exposed by Malaysiakini, saying they lacked credibility.
But DAP national legal bureau chairman and deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) fired back, calling claims of “insufficient information” in the probe “absurd.”
Earlier today, he doubled down, saying there was prima facie evidence in the case.
Sabah DAP, for its part, has repeatedly urged MACC to wrap up its investigation so the matter can move to the courts.
But this is more than just a corruption probe—it’s also a political reckoning. The party has been sitting on a major decision about its alliance with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah following the corruption scandal that has hit the state political alliance.
DAP’s Central Executive Committee gave its Sabah chapter full authority last December to reassess its position in the state government. But they have yet to decide.
Initially, the party planned to bring the issue to Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) for deliberation. That discussion, however, was pushed back due to Chinese New Year celebrations.
Sabah DAP chairman Phoong Jin Zhe said the delay allows them to gather feedback from the ground before making a final decision.
That didn’t stop him from making a firm declaration at a recent DAP women and youth convention—Sabah DAP is staying in the government, at least for now.
“PH Sabah remains committed to good governance and will carefully assess its position within the state government from time to time,” Wong said.
The MACC insists the case is moving forward, but Sabah DAP is keeping up the pressure. – February 18, 2025
