Another Sabah MP has joined calls for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to expedite its investigations into the corruption allegations involving state assemblymen and a controversial mining licensing corruption scandal.

Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin (Umno) urged the anti-graft agency to conclude its probe swiftly, stressing that Sabahans deserve transparency.

“We urge the authorities to expedite this matter. If there was bribery, charge those involved. If not, let the people of Sabah know,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Feb 6) during the debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address.

His remarks came a day after Beluran MP Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Bersatu) also pressed for answers on the MACC’s slow progress in investigating the Sabah mining corruption scandal.

“The case was reported last year, yet we still do not see any concrete action. The MACC must provide a clear update,” Kiandee said in Parliament on Wednesday.

The latest pressure from Sabah lawmakers follows reports that implicated assemblymen had attempted to bribe a whistleblower, prompting MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki to order further investigations.

In December, the MACC confirmed two separate probes—one into the whistleblower and another into the accused assemblymen—linked to the corruption allegations. – February 6, 2025
