Eighty contingents from various uniformed bodies took to the Padang Merdeka field in Kota Kinabalu today to honour Sabah’s Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Musa Aman, in a ceremonial observance marking his maiden official birthday parade.
The event — Tun Musa’s first since assuming office — was held in accordance with longstanding state protocol and featured representatives from the police, armed forces, air force, fire and rescue services, scouts, cadet corps, and other civil defence units.
Tun Musa, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, was received by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag.
Also in attendance were Deputy Chief Minister and organising chairman Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, State Secretary Datuk Seri Sr Safar Untong, and other senior officials.
The ceremony began with a 17-gun salute from Signal Hill before Tun Musa inspected the guard of honour.
He boarded a ceremonial inspection vehicle to review the assembled contingents lined up across the field.
A symbolic cake-cutting ceremony was held during a cultural performance by the Sabah Cultural and Arts Department, before the parade formally concluded.
Tun Musa was officially sworn in as the 8th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah on January 1, 2024, succeeding Tun Juhar Mahiruddin. – June 21, 2025
