Sabah assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun has once targeted by vandals.
His campaign banner has been splashed with red paint again.
The Elopura representative and Warisan Sandakan chief confirmed the attack, calling it the latest in a string of politically charged acts of sabotage.
Over the past three weeks, his banners have been slashed, covered, and now deliberately defaced.
“This is a cowardly act,” Chong said. “People who believe in their cause don’t sneak around in the dark like criminals.”
Authorities have been notified, with Chong filing a police report urging swift action.
While the identity of those behind the repeated attacks remains unclear, Chong isn’t ruling out political motives. “Three times in three weeks—this isn’t random,” he said. “Whether it’s a prank or an attempt at intimidation, it’s unacceptable.”
Despite the escalation, Chong insists he isn’t deterred. Instead, he’s using the attacks as motivation.
“This only strengthens our resolve,” he said. “People in Sandakan want better infrastructure, a stronger economy—not petty political games.” – February 14, 2025.
