Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today announced RM14.2 million in funding to improve military housing and facilities in Sabah to improve the welfare of armed forces personnel in the state.
“The well-being of our armed forces personnel is vital to ensuring they can carry out their duties effectively.
“These improvements will not only enhance their quality of life but also boost morale,” Mohamed Khaled said during a ceremony at Kinabalu Hall, Lok Kawi Camp, in Kota Kinabalu, on Monday.
The allocation includes RM2.9 million for maintenance of the Rumah Keluarga Angkatan Tentera (RKAT) and accommodation blocks at Lok Kawi Camp, with RM11.3 million allocated for similar works at other camps under the Fifth Infantry Division.
Mohamed Khaled said the government is committed to addressing housing shortages with the construction of 513 new RKAT units at Lok Kawi Camp, which was launched on February 22, 2022. The project is expected to be completed in August this year.
The minister also provided a one-time RM500 welfare contribution to 20 personnel suffering from chronic illnesses during a casual engagement session at the camp.
