Over 3,500 squatters to be demolished in two months

Sabah police commissioner said 3,542 notices have been issued

OVER 3,500 squatter homes slated for demolition in the next two months, said Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.

A total of 3,542 demolition notices have been issued and 1,332 houses already demolished so far, he said.

“We expect to demolish more than 3,500 squatter homes by the end of July or in August. We will continue these efforts until we reach our goal,” he said in Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday.

Over 200 squatter houses were demolished in Kota Kinabalu, 160 in Kota Marudu, and 138 in Semporna, all built on state government land.

On June 27, Jauteh announced the commencement of a multi-agency operation in Sabah to identify squatter settlements and issue demolition notices.

The three-phase operation, named Ops Koloni Setinggan, will start with smaller squatter colonies in Kota Kinabalu, Semporna, Kudat, and Labuan before expanding to larger ones across the state.
