Tawau police seized over 3kg of syabu worth RM180,000 in two separate raids on Sunday and Monday and arrested four men believed to be involved in drug trafficking in the east coast district.
The first raid, conducted at 5pm on Sunday at an unnumbered house along Jalan Kuhara, led to the discovery of 2,039.64 grams of syabu.
Based on information obtained, a second operation was carried out at 12.10am on Monday at Kilometer 60 of the Semporna-Tawau road, where officers seized another package of syabu weighing 1,018.41 grams.
“The total drugs seized in these operations amount to over three kilograms, with an estimated street value of RM180,000,” Tawau police chief Jasmin Hussin said during a press conference at the Tawau District Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
One of the suspects from the first raid tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, while another had two prior criminal records under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspects in the second raid, however, had no previous records.
All four suspects, aged 28 to 41, including two foreign nationals, are being remanded until 3 February 2025 under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.
“We will take aggressive action against anyone involved in drug distribution. There will be no compromise because drugs are the number one enemy of the nation,” Jasmin said. – January 27, 2025.
