A sea of people—some arriving early in the morning—filled the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) to attend the Sabah government’s Chinese New Year celebrations in Kota Kinabalu on Thursday.
Approximately, 25,000 gathered at the event, according to official estimates.
The crowd, made up of families, business figures, and community leaders, thronged the venue to mark the occasion, which featured cultural performances, like lion dances, traditional delicacies, and official festivities.

Sabah Head of State Tun Musa Aman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor were present, accompanied by their spouses, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin and Datin Seri Panglima Juliah Salag. State cabinet ministers also attended, including event organising chairperson and Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew.
Despite the sheer volume of attendees, the event proceeded smoothly, with organisers ensuring a steady flow of activities from 10am to 2pm.
Security personnel were stationed at key points to manage the large turnout. – January 30, 2025.
