The number of flood evacuees in Sabah has risen slightly to 5,202 as of 4am today, up from 5,195 last night. 

The situation is showing signs of stabilisation.

According to the state disaster management committee, 73 villages remain affected, with evacuees taking shelter in 33 evacuation centres across nine districts: Beaufort, Kota Marudu, Tongod, Telupid, Kota Belud, Lahad Datu, Beluran, Paitan, and Pitas.

All shelters in Sandakan are closed to date.

Kota Marudu remains the worst-hit area, with 2,944 evacuees, followed by Pitas (792) and Lahad Datu (514). Sandakan’s flood relief centre has been closed, and the number of evacuees in other districts remains unchanged.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as floodwaters begin to recede in several areas. 

On Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM25 million allocation to help with repairs on damage infrastructures in Sabah and Sarawak. 

He also announced RM1,000 aid to help families affected by the disaster in both Borneo states.  – February 1, 2025
